Demand each CBC member take a public stand

Last week, the Congressional Black Caucus Institute announced it would legitimize Fox News, over the protests of thousands of Black Americans and our allies.

The problem goes beyond the Institute, to the individual members of the CBC. When ColorOfChange members called on leaders within the CBC to take a stand, every one of their offices either passed the buck—falsely claiming they had no ability to influence the decision—or privately agreed with us but refused to speak publicly or push back on their colleagues.

This is unacceptable. For members of the CBC to duck this issue is an abdication of responsiblity at best, and cowardice at worst.

Join us in demanding that every member of the CBC go on the record—explaining why they support the CBC brand being used to validate Fox or expressing opposition to a Fox/CBCI partnership. It's the first step in holding them accountable.

Here is the text of the email we'll send to each CBC member on your behalf, unless you create your own statement.

Dear CBC Member,

As I'm sure you're aware, the Congressional Black Caucus Institute has announced its intent to partner with Fox News to host presidential debates, lending the CBC brand to legitimize Fox as a news organization, despite its documented history of attacking Black people, culture, and leaders.

There is growing concern among Black Americans and our allies that silence on the part of CBC members in the face of the Institute's decision to partner with Fox threatenes to sully the reputation of the caucus and shows a lack of leadership by you and your colleagues.

As someone committed to making sure that Black people's interests are protected, I want to know whether or not you support the Institute's decision.

Signed,
