How do I find out more information about hosting a party?
For basic information, please go to the sign up page. Click on “host your own event“ to see more information about hosting. Finally, you can review the following answers to commonly asked questions.
How do I get my password? What is it?
When you signed up for your party, you received a confirmation
email with the subject “Signup Confirmed.” At the bottom of that email
is a link you can use to set your password–just click it, enter your
password twice, and you should be signed in. If clicking on the link doesn't work, copy and paste the entire link into your browser window.
If you've lost that email or forgotten your password, you can also just go to:
http://moveon.org/login/
Enter the email address that you receive MoveOn alerts at in the
form on that page, and we'll send you an email with a link you can use
to set your password. It sounds a little complicated, but it's pretty
simple in practice.
How do I access my coordinator tools?
Your coordinator tools allow you to manage your party. You'll
want to use them to change party details, get in touch with attendees,
and access materials.
To access your meeting tools, click here.
You will need to log in using your email address and password. For help with your password, read “How do I get my password” in this FAQ.
How do I cancel my party?
Don't cancel your party! It'll be fun.
Seriously though, if you need to cancel your event, you can do so by clicking the “Cancel this event” option on the menu in your event coordinator page. Click here to access your event coordinator page.
I'm hosting a public party, but no one has signed up yet. What should I do?
Don't worry. We'll send out a reminder to encourage people to go to a local house party. Hopefully, your attendance will increase.
But there's one sure way to increase attendance at your party- and to get new people involved. Invite your friends, co-workers, and family! Email is fine, but phone calls are much better.
How do I see who's signed up for my party?
You can see the names and contact information (if provided) of
everyone who's signed up for your party through the MoveOn system. Click here to access your event coordinator page.
How do I close my party to the public and make it friends-only?
Log in to your coordinator tools, and click on "
Make event
Private." Now the public can't search for your event.
I entered my house party twice. How do I delete one of them?
Click here to access your event coordinator page, click on the event that you want to cancel and then click “cancel this event.”
How do I change the location of my party?
To change the location of your party, log in to your
coordinator tools and click on the “Update event location, size or time” button. Change the
location in the form that appears, and hit the “Make changes” button at the
bottom. Your changes should be made.

How do I get in touch with people who signed up for my party?
You can use your event coordinator tools to email anyone who signed up for your party. Just check the box next to their name, click the “Send E-mail” button and then click on “Email selected guest(s).” If people listed their phone number, you can also see it on this page.
How can I contact the host?
When you register for a party, the confirmation email you receive will include a link to email the host. If you no longer have that email, you can sign in here and select “Email Host.”
I want to remove my name from the registrant list.
You sign in here and select “Cancel RSVP.”
What if I signed up and then it was full for my companion(s)?
See above for "How can I contact the host?" and ask if you can bring additional guests. Because these parties are usually in private homes, we need to respect the host's upper limit. Usually there are no-shows and cancellations, and perhaps reminding the host of this will be helpful. If you can't bring guests, you can certainly let the host know that you are not able to attend, and you can try and sign up for another party.
What do I do if I see a 'hoax party'? What do you do about them?
Whenever we have house parties, we invariably get 'hoax parties' registered by people who are just interested in disrupting our good work. We simply delete them, after making sure no one signed up for the party. Parties are registered automatically and then we scan them so we can delete these inappropriate listings. Though we do this regularly, we really appreciate your notifying us because, with hundreds to monitor, you may well catch them before we do. Just copy the listing and zip code and then tell us about it here.
I want to register for a party but there is no box to check!
This means that the event is full and it will say "Event Full!" under the title. You can:
- Host your own event.
- Check back periodically for new events and in case a previously full event has opened up.
- Search within a greater distance.
I lost the sample letter to invite others. How can I get that back?
Here is the text - you will need to fill in your event-specific information:
Hi,
I'm having a Supreme Court house party for MoveOn the weekend of July 8-10 and I wanted to see if you could come.
Any day now, George Bush will be nominating a replacement for Sandra Day O’Connor, a widely respected and moderate Supreme Court justice. Conservative groups are urging the President to appoint a conservative extremist, shifting the balance on the court and threatening our most basic rights.
We’re going to plan a local action to send the message to President Bush and Congress that we want them to protect our rights. Then we’ll watch a great progressive movie related to the rights that we’re working to protect.
And of course there'll be snacks. So I hope you can make it!
You can get all the info, and sign up to come, at:
[the link from your coordinator page]
My party is at:
[Address]
To get there:
[Directions -- depending on where you are, you may want to include both driving and public transportation directions]
I hope you'll come!
I signed up for a party, but I haven't been contacted by my host. Do I still go?
To avoid problems, we encourage guests not to attend parties where they haven't received confirmation of the event details from the host. But it's possible that your host missed you for some reason, you can sign in here and select “Email Host” to contact your host and confirm.
I have a question that isn't answered here. What do I do?
You can contact us with your question. We will get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, please check here regularly. We will update the FAQ with the most common questions.
