Dear Senator <senator's name>,
I'm writing to ask that you oppose Hans von Spakovsky's nomination to the FEC in the strongest possible terms. Perhaps no individual has been more central to the Republican effort to disenfranchise minority voters than von Spakovsky. It would be shameful for any senator to vote to confirm a nominee who has made a career of systematically undermining voting rights for partisan gain.
There can be no justification for allowing von Spakovsky to remain on the FEC. There could not be a clearer test of your willingness to fight against voter suppression, or to support it, than this nomination. A vote for von Spakovsky is a vote for voter suppression and against democracy.
As your constituent, I expect more than a quiet "no" vote against this brazen assault on our most fundamental democratic right. That President Bush has nominated von Spakovsky to the FEC is an insult to democracy that should be met with strong condemnation. All senators who care about democracy should consider this an opportunity to use the power of their offices to begin a much needed accounting for the assault on voting rights of the last six and a half years.
Sincerely,
[your name here]
